    Against the darkening sky...

    7th October 1937.
    Against the darkening sky and new-lit stars the mountains, soaked with rain, were outlined clearly.

    I never sleep too late. At eight o'clock to the minute my mother is at my bedside pulling my ears. Very often I do not get up at the first call, but if I draw her to my bedside a second time I will not be long rising. At ten past eight I am usually seated at breakfast and twenty minutes later
