  1. A slave was sent to gather rice but he was so fatigued that he lay down and fell asleep. He wore very little clothes as the weather was hot. His hair was dishevelled and it was buried deep in the sand. While he was sleeping he dreamt he was at home in his native land.
    Among the many things he saw in his dream he imagined he perceived the lordly Niger wending its way to the sea. He thought he saw himself strolling leisurely beneath the palm trees that grew on the plains of his native country. Finally he heard the tinkling of the bells of the caravans as they came down the mountain road.
