  1. I saw him first in Ballinrobe carrying a canvas bag under his arm. When I came to know him better I learned that he lived with his wife and child in an old tumbled-down shack on the roadside. He wears a brown jersey and an old grey tweed trousers all stained and patched and also an old pair of tattered boots.
    I see him so often that I can tell it is him before he comes within a hundred yards of me, because of his disheveled hair, his grey eyes, his lurching walk and his red sun-tanned face. He is always smiling and shouting, and as he shouts
