    kicked & beaten so that I was sure I would die. Not long after I saw a big black man coming towards me. The tinkers crouched & whispered in fear. I found myself in the middle of the road alone.
    The black man, whom I found out later was a guard, brought me away & lodged me in a garden. Next day I was given to a countryman. I work with him still & I mean to stay there for ever.
