    then it is put on a griddle and set to bake. The way that they used to make oaten-meal bread is they mix up flour, and bread soda, and salt, then they pour butter milk on it and then it is kneaded and set it on a griddle or in a oven to bake. They used to leave it one or two hours to bake. They used to make a cross on the cake so as to let out the air so that they cut it easily and so that it would not go into bits.
