  1. Bread Making.
    Long ago the people ate no bread only oats meal or wheat-meal bread. They had no ranges, or ovens, so the cakes were backed before the fire. Sometimes they were put on a griddle or stand and fire kept under it until the bread was backed. Sometimes they were put standing against a support and turned occasionally until the heat of the fire backed them.
