- Hedge School.
Our Fore-fathers were fond education there were but few schools in their time on account of the Penal-Laws, no Catholic was allowed to educate his child at home or abroad. There were secret school which were called Hedge-schools.
There was a Hedge-school in James Kean's barn in Currshallia and the children from that district attended that school.
The teachers were not paid like nowadays they were given no money but they were given lodgings and food and the children had to pay according to their(continues on next page)- Collector
