- Hedge Schools.
There were no schools long ago old. bares or sheltered places under hedges. They sat on sods of turf and had slates on their knees writing. The teachers got no money as the Goverment would not give them any, and the people of the house were notable to give them any money the only way they paid was to give them food and shelter. The teachers taught the subjects in shelter. The had no blackboards in these times. These schools were called the "Hedge Schools" The teacher read out poetry or history and the pupils leaned it of by heart.(continues on next page)- Collector
