  1. Weather Lore.
    People long ago could tell when we were going to have rain, or snow, by fire or smoke and by the animals, and birds.
    The old people say that if there is a blue blaze in the fire that is the sign of rain. If birds are fat in September it is the sign of a hard Winter.
    If foxes bark much in October they are calling up a great fall of now.
    When the smoke comes out of the chimley and blows out round the street we will have fine weather.
