- The old people say that if there a blue blaze in the fire that it is the sign of rain. If the birds are fat it is the sign of a hard Winter. If the foxes bark too much in October we will have a great fall of snow. When the cat sits on the hearth-stone with his back to the fire we will have a storm. When the sun shines brightly we will have frost.
When the smoke comes out of the chimney and blows out round the street we will have rain.
