    The scholars those days had no desks or seats like now-a days, only two sods of turf to sit on and to use their knees as a desk.
    They used to have a large fire in the centre of the floor and and all the pupils gathered around it to learn their lessons. They had large sheets of slates to write on, and their books were Primers which were handed down from child to child. They learned reading, writing and arithmetic.
