    The people had no chimneys or windows. They had a hole in the roof for the chimney and the house was very smoky.
    They had a hole in wall for a window and they used to stuff it at night.
    They had no lamps like w have nowdays. They used to pull rushes and peel them and they then dried and steeped in tallow. The rushes were used as we use candles.
    Those houses were so small that they had to put a bed in a corner and
