    The water in the trough is supposed to be a cure for warts. Long ago they used to make brogeen spades and slanes in the forges and also ploughs and mended all kinds of iron ware which they do nowadays.
    Mr Mulligan's father was a blacksmith.
    Part of the the work is done in the open air such as shoeing the cart wheels or putting on tyres.
