- The tinkers usually visit our district and they nearly always come in families. There are different sections of tinkers, the OBrians, the Carthys and the Donaghues. They usually come before the races or a big fair-day. Some of them sell candlesticks, holy pictures, brooches, combs and other things. They make flowers themselves of paper and sell them also. They also beg for flour, meal and other things that support life. They travel in cars from place to place and they sometimes stay on the side of the roads near some shady place and remain there for a couple of days.
