- The people long ago had three meals a day. The breakfast, the dinner and the supper. Some people used work about two hours in the morning before they ate their breakfasts. The breakfast usually consisted of potatoes, salt and buttermilk. For the dinner they had potatoes and skimmed milk and the supper consisted of stirabout made with yellow meal and boiled in water.
