  1. Marrages usually take place during Shrove commencing the sixth of January. Match making lasts six or seven weeks.
    It is very unlucky to marry during the month of May and from the first of August to the first of November. On the Wedding day a feast is held at the girl's house and sometimes at both houses Cows are sometimes given but in our place money is nearly always given as a fortune. After the marrage a crowd of horsemen go racing with each other to see which of them would win. Sometimes an old shoe is tied to the motor as a sign of luck.
