- The net fishing season opens the first of April. Many people in our district go fishing with boats. The boats are made of timber and tarred outside. The night the fishing opens people usually say the rosary and sprinkle holy-water on the boats and nets. They also keep a little bottle of holy water in the boat.
They also cast lots to see which of them would fish first. If two people are fishing together in one boat they divide the amount of fish they catch. From Ballyhorgan quay to the Cashen, people are allowed fish free except for Beal a Phuirt which is owned by Mr. Ned Browne.- Collector
