  1. There are ten forges in the Parish. There is one at Bolton's Cross and one at the Six Crosses and another one beside a stream near the town. All the rest are in the town. There is only one fireplace in a forge. The implement are a hammer, an anvil and a pincers. Most of the forges are roofed with corrugated iron. The smith shoes asses, horses and ponies and also wheels.
