  1. Long ago churning was very common but at present is rarely made in our district. The churn is about three feet high. It is like a barrel with two handles on each side. Twice a week the butter is made in Winter and once in Summer.
    It is usually the woman of the house that makes the butter. If a stranger comes in during the churning they would have to take a turn at the work or the butter would not gather. No one was allowed to take a coal of fire while churning the butter, or the butter would be stolen. From one to two hours it takes the butter to be made, about one in
