  1. There are eight forges in this district. There is one at Bolton's Cross, one at the Six Crosses and one at Greenville. All the rest are in Listowel.
    Most of the forges are roofed with corrugated iron. There is only one fireplace in the forge. The smith's implements are, a bellows, an anvil, a hammer, a sledge and a pincers. The smith shoes horses, ponies, asses and he also shoes wheels of cars. The smith also repairs ploughs, harrows, pikes and gates.
