An Old Story (continued)
“Once upon a time there lived a farmer near the town of Ardfert.”
(continued from previous page)and when they reached the Shannon banks the captain said "Over the Shannon" and they all jumped it clear to the other side and when they reached Clare he said "God bless your leap my old piece of timber" and the piece of timber remained where it was. The man had to walk home when he came off the timber as there were no trains in those days. When he arrived home in Ardfert there was great rejoicing as the country-side had been searched for the missing man.- Collector
