    tell the farmer who bought the sand. The farmer used put the sand in a place called the "byby". The boats were driven by sails and when the winds are not strong enough the boats were tied by ropes. They used come with the coming tide and go down with the ebb tide. About thirty years ago Joe Connor of Dysert had a motor boat for drawing the sand.
    About twenty five years ago Patrick Sheehy of Dysert drew "gilcock" from Mc/ Carthys marsh of Ferry to the Ballyhorgan quay. The farmers that had thatched houses bought the boat load to thatch their houses.
