  1. The ruins of an old castle still remain in Glenalappa in the parish of Newtownsandes about nine miles from Listowel. When the Danes were in Ireland they threw shots at the castle from "Cnocán" a hill in Limerick and there were horses grazing on wet low land near the castle. When they heard the shots they ran with fright and the print of their hooves are still to be seen near the castle. It is said that it was a Lord of Munster that lived in it. There are ghosts and fairies been there now.
