  1. During the Famine years a priest lived in Gorthnabroshes. His name was Father Fitzgerald. He lived in the parish for about two years and as a result of the Famine he removed to Firies. He build a little lonely road from the public one and the people still call it "bóithrín an tSagairt. About a mile from this district is a Mass rock. There are three holes cut into the rock which are supposed to be the Alter steps. This priest was supposed to say Mass there.
