  1. One day as Fionn Mac Cuinaill was out hunting near the village of Kilflynn about seven miles from Tralee he saw a large gathering of men in a valley not far away. On coming towards them he found them throwing stones and jumping. Among them he noticed a Princess and then he realized that the men were chosing the best runner as this was the way the princess used to chose her husband long ago.
On seeing them Fionn did not think any of them very good. He immediately rushed into the valley but the people only laughed at him as his hair was tossed and his clothes torn from being out all day hunting. The people thought he could never be the Princess'es husband.
