    of the horses approached the little cottage. He was away for some hours and then he returned looking all tired and worn out and fell into a dead sleep till next day.
    This state of things went on for some time and all that his friends could do could not put a stop to it and the young man was fading away before their eyes.
    At this time there lived among the mountains an old man who gave all his time picking herbs and plants and doing good for many people who were beyond medical skill, and who suffered from strange illnesses. At length the elder brother and sister made up their minds to go to him and to tell them their sad story. He listened patiently to their account without saying one word. When they had finished talking he commanded them to wait while he gathered certain plants. He boiled these plants and while they were boiling he never uttered a word only gazing straight into the fire and he saw hosts of people on horseback and they going with the speed of lightening over marshes and bogs, travelling hundreds and hundreds of miles and the younger brother mounted on a snow white steed all the time in the midst of them. When the plants had been boiling for a very long time the old man told what he had seen. Then he took the juice of the herbs and plants and put some of it into a bottle. He gave this to the
