    with forests and great batches of wolves roamed about the country. There are places which contain Átha (a ford). Such as Baile Átha Cliath, béal átha na Muc, béal átha Seanaigh. There are others containing rath (a fort) e.g. Rathfarnham etc.Others tell of some ancient Church such as Cill Coinuigh (Caninice's Church) Cill Darra, and Cill an Ceallaigh.
    We have places in which the names of chieftain occurs in such as Caisleán A' Bharraigh (Barry's Castle), Dún Gheanainn (Gannon's Fort), béal Athá Bárraigh (Barry's Highway), An Uaimh (Navan) which suggests some battle, and Ballinvoash (place of death). Then we have numerous other places which suggest many different things e.g. Sarnaught (bare ridge), baile na n-Éan (home of the birds), Dereenacross (the little oak wood of the cross-roads)
