    Dear Srgt. Reynolds,
    I wish to announce to you that a number of thefts have occurred in our house and neighbouring houses recently.
    This business started about a week ago, when a cart of turf was taken from our shed, and a bicycle frame taken from Mr. Stanton's stable. Then last Friday night the harrow was taken from Mr. O'Malleys yard. The whole village is in consternation. If this business goes on much longer we shall not be able to live at all.
