  1. It was a chilly morning in early December. There was a thick fog over land and water. Ponds and puddles were frozen into ice and the roads were hard and slippy.
    A young boy was cycling along the road and his only companion was a big sheepdog. Suddenly there was a loud noise which frightened the boy and he fell with a crash to the road. The dog began whining and running restlessly around his unconscious master.
    He ran home then and the people of the house knew there was
