   were paid by the landlord's tenants. The tithes that were collected were given to the parson. Some of the people resented their collection. The people were punished for trivial acts. There were no battles on account of the collections. The landlord owned a big estate. He owned all round Lismacaffrey.

   The local landlord was Mr Sproules. The people were settled three months in their homes, when he would come around for the rent. He was looked upon as a very bad landlord.
   Long ago there were evictions carried out in this district. The evicted people went to England and America. Cromwell planted his soldiers on the evicted farms. Cromwell's Officers came back after the war and bought up the land from the soldiers at nine shillings per acre. Then those officers found that the best way to make money out of the land was to give farms back to some of the tenants that were evicted, at a very
