The cows are tied to stakes in the cow byre. There is a chain on each stake and at the end of the chain there is a crook that is for keeping the cow tied. There is a manger stick going from one stake to the other to keep the cows from tramping on the hay. Some people hang up palm in the cow byre on Palm Sunday.
Cows that are thieving are tied with a rope from the front leg to the horn. The rope is made of straw so that if the cow got caught in a fence she could brake it easily.
