- Throwing the half hundred weight was a game very much appreciated the natives of Rathmore. Thomas T.P. O'Connor now an aged man of 88 was a distinguished caster. He was an out size and locally known as "Big Tom" or "Tom Fada".
- Famous poets were Aodaghán O'Rathaille Loghan. Ruadh Ó Suilleabhan and Joe Dineen all natives of the parish.
Fr Stephen Dineen a brother to Joe was a noted writer - It is generally believed that when the hills seem near that rain is approaching. Other signs of rain are - the flight of crows after nightfall, the screaming of the curlún(curlew) when they flew near the ground and when the road is swarmed with ants.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
