- About the year 600 there was a monastery founded in Abbeyfeale. At first the monks were building the monastery in another place but by night all the part they had built was carried away. This happened for a week and then the monks decided to stay up and see what was taking away the building materials.
At about 12 o'clock a flock of birds that were never before seen came and took away the materials. They followed the birds and found all the things that were taken in a heap. Then they built their monastery in that place on the banks of the Feale. It was destroyed the time of Cromwell. From that monastery and from the river Feale Abbyfeale got its name.
