  2. The Big Wind

    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    This (terrifing) storm swept over this land on the night of the 6th of January 1839. Houses were knocked and roofs were blown of. The roofs were made of thatch and not very well tied so that they were easily blown off. After the storm people put big iron rods to hold down the thatch instead of twigs called "scolops". Many other alterations were made in building after this so that people were ready if another storm came.
