  2. About 40 years ago there lived in Forge Lane in Listowel a nailer by the name of Jackey Connor. He used to do a good trade one but when they commenced to make the nails by machinery he was not able to compete with them, and he had to close down his shop. He used to have three men employed and he had to leave them off.
    Another trade that had to close down was weaving. There was a weaver in Listowel about 30 years ago by the name of Mick Barry. He lived where Browne's in church St have their butcher's stall at the present time. He could not compete with machinery and he had to close down also.
