Whispering Sunday
Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday or the end of the Seraft and it the last day for lucky marriages in the year. On that night the old custom in Ireland was to make "slims" or pancakes and to put a ring, a rag, and a bit of a stick in them. The rag for a future nun. The ring to get married in the time to come and the stick to be an old maid. Everyone liked to get the ring. It is called Pancake Night. Meat formed part of the feast also.
