- Pus Sunday was the first Sunday in Lent. Those who expected to get married in Seraft and did not , were supposed to have "Pus" on that day. It was a custom in this locality long ago that young boys would gather in groups at the Church gates with salt in their pockets. This they shook on the ladies as they passed into Mass on this Sunday.Mary Keane
