- There was an old school in Carragolda. Mr. Thomas Carroll, Miss O'Grady and Miss O'Donnell taught there. Miss O'Grady afterwards became Mrs. John Egan and was Principal Teacher in Turlough N.S. Castlebar. Miss O'Donnell was a native of Ballaghaderrin. She taught in Derrinea before Mr. Harte.It was a kind of barn with a loft over-head where the teacher live while they taught there. It now belongs to James Higgins of Carragolda. My grandfather went to school there. The children learned Arithmetic and English writing and reading and a little Irish.
