- My father told me that the greatest runner in Mayo was P.J. Nally of Balla. He could cover a hundred yards in 9 1/2 seconds. He was a Fenian and died for his country. Later came Harry Evans of Ballylahan. He was afterwards challenged and defeated by P. Heverin of Ballina, who was afterwards defeated by Anthony Ruane of Grallagh, who in turn was defeated by O'Keefe of Balla. The present hundred yard championship of Mayo belongs to Paddy Flannery of Castlebar.
