  1. There was a hedge school in Boleyard beside the house which now known as Dempsey's.
    There was a hedge school beside Berry's old house. A woman named Mary Early taught there. When the children had to stay home to mind the baby, she told them to bring the cradle to school with them and they could mind it while they were learning their lessons. They did so, and many a pupil had a creel beside her during the day and a baby in it. They paid her money for her work but at what rate I do not know.
