- There is a large fort in the townland of Rathruane. It is round in shape. I was often in the fort. There is a large entrance to it and a passage leading downwards. When on reaches the end of the passage there are many rooms which one can go into. Wild cats have been seen on the fort. It is said that there is a passage under the ground from that fort to another fort in the townland of Carracross.John McNicholas
