  1. In the olden times, the people used to colour woollen stockings with the moss that grew on the walls. When they would have the stockings ready to colour they would wet them in cold water put them into a pot of water alongwith the moss and boil them together. When they were taken out they were a brown colour. Then they washed the stockings and put them out to dry.
