    as porridge. Potatoes were eaten at nearly every meal. The potatoes were very often eaten just with salt or sometimes with "dip" which was milk and a little salt mixed. Sometimes it is said that a piece of fish or meat was hung down in the middle of the potatoes and was not to be eaten.
