  1. Shops were very plentiful in This place long ago. We had one in Lack named Michael O'Shea, one in Ross Mount named Buttlers, and another in Lavalla named Sheehans. There is not one of those there to the present day. The chief goods bought were sugar, tea, matches, and candles. People never bought flour, and to day it is the chief thing bought.
There were tents going around after mass on Sundays, selling small things, such a apples, oranges, sea grass, and cakes.
Many people bought those goods, as they were very cheap, a few pence was as good as a shilling to the present day.
