A pleasure boat was going from Scattary Island to Kilrush on the 15th day of August 41 years bearing twenty passengers to attend a meeting of the United Irish League addressed by the leader of the Irish party. They left Cappa Pier at 6 o'clock in the evening, they got drowned on their way home. None of them escaped.
Two miles from this a house it was a thatched one when the storm came it brought away the thatch, and the fire went around the house and it burned the house.
