Weddings are not so numerous now as they were long ago. But on a wedding day a lot of old customs are carried on. First of all they have a wedding cake and the newly married woman cuts it and gives a piece of it to every person.
Then they have all kinds of amusement, such as dancing singing and music. Then a big dinner is held, which would consist of geese, turkeys and other things. They used also have all kinds of nurishment (drink?).
Then a crowd of "straw boys" would visit the house and do be dressed like wren boys. Each man would have a stick in his hand and a mask on his face, and he would have straw tied around the legs of his trousers. They were welcomed by the people. Then they laid down their sticks and they ate enough and they danced with the bride.
Those attending the wedding would race home on horseback. But the wife and her husband would have a special carriage and a friend would throw an old shoe after them for luck.
