  1. Sprid na Bearna. 2-11-'37
Mary O'Shaughnessy was Sprid na Bearna's name. She was supposed to have murdered her two unbaptised infants and after her death her spirit haunded the district. The people around Barnagh were much afraid of her.
After sunset until daybreak she used go from Barnagh to a well near Glin and if she met anyone on her journey she would beat them. A man was going for the priest one night riding a horse. He met her on the road and she asked for a drive.
The man told her to sit up and when she did so the horse began to sweat. She jumped off and told the man if he had refused her he should die.
