1. Food in Olden Times

   Long ago the people had three meals a day, namely the breakfast, dinner and supper. They had the breakfast about eight o'clock in the morning. The dinner about one o'clock. The supper about eight o'clock at night.
   The people worked about two hours every morning before having food. They had potatoes and skim milk for their breakfast and dinner. They had gruel and skim milk for their supper. Potatoes were eaten by some people at every meal and skim milk was drank.
   The people sat around the table in the centre of the floor eating their dinner. But it was placed near the wall at every other meal. They had meal bread, which was made of meal and boiling water. They also had bread which was made of potatoes, flour, and salt and it was called stampy. Meat was eaten only very seldom and it was salt pork.
   Fish was eaten very often, and vegetables, such as cabbage, and turnips. People ate about nine o'clock at night sometimes. Certain kinds of food were eaten at weddings, Easter and Christmas. Such as eggs, fish, meat, vegetables and loaf bread.
   Tea was used first
