- Shops were very common in olden times. People could shop any where without going to the nearest town. Some women used to go to the town and buy about three dozen of loaves and then go around the country selling a creel of bread. Some shopkeepers did the most of this shopping business after Mass on Sunday. Money was always given for goods as there was no other exchange. Goods were never bartered in the district.
