The fairs now are always held in towns. When an animal is sold a luck penny is given to the buyer. When bargains are made they hit one anothers hands. A red mark is put on the animal's back when sold.
When the animal is sold the halter or rope is retained. The biggest fairs of the year are the October fair and the March fair. Horses and cattle are sold in the same fairs. - The local fairs held are Collooney, Ballymote and Ballisodare, they are always held in towns. Buyers come to my district of Doorla and buy cattle, sheep and pigs mostly.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
